Cooking with Cuc in Hue
“Cooking with Cuc in Hue” Reviewed April 29, 2013 We had a great time cooking with Mr Cuc. First of all, he took us to the market to buy the ingredients for the dishes, which was a fun experience by itself. Then, he taught us to make traditional Hue beef noodle soup, fresh and fried spring rolls, a delicious peanut sauce and shrimp pancake. He also customized some dishes as I do not eat seafood and beef. Overall, I enjoyed the 3 hour cooking class. Thank you Cuc ! Cook with Ms Ngoc
“Cook with Ms Ngoc” Reviewed November 26, 2011 The lovely Ms Ngoc took us to the markets which was great as we could ask her the questions we had about the produce etc (but we didn't look for dog). Then back to the restaurant which was very well organised with all the ingredients prepared in advance for our class. We made fried and fresh spring rolls and a delicious caramalised tuna dish which we do at home now. Also the banh. Then we got to eat it all which we couldn't because we'd just had a massive breakfast - so plan it to be your lunch. You can buy the apron for 20k dong in the markets too. The notes we got were amusing but we took our own as Ms Ngoc had her own recipe. Well worth doing the class. She was well impressed with a man cooking as they don't in Vietnam. Ever.PS There is also a great cook book at Morning Glory in Hoi An for $40 which we are using at home a lot. Visited October 2011

CITY TOUR A NEW EXPERIENCE WITH HANDICRAFT VILLAGES

Overview

This excursion is to help you explore a peaceful and ancient Hue with a lot of royal tombs, a romantic Vong Canh Hill where tourists can admire a lovely panorama of the city, garden houses with surrounding traditional fences, local people living on the making of incenses and conical hats. Then the boat will continue to take you downstream on the Huong River to Sinh Village (its pen-name is Lai An) which is famous for the traditional craft of folk woodblock painting dating back 300 years or so. More especially, you can choose a printing-board (of jack wood, carve to create the drawing lines and black shapes,) print the painting, complete it with embellishments and colour the painting in a traditional way as a keepsake of your journey or as a souvenir gift for your beloved relatives. You also have a chance to enjoy a meal which is characterized by the culinary arts of Hue people in particular and Vietnam in general of many centuries and other interesting things awaiting you.

Itinerary & Value
Day 1: CITY TOUR - A NEW EXPERIENCE WITH HANDICRAFT VILLAGES

Morning: Car and tourist guide pick you up at the hotel and then visit Tu Duc tomb which shows architectural features in free and romantic forms just like the character of this Emperor, and talents of artisans under the Nguyen’s dynasty. The car will take you to villages where local people make incense and traditional conical hats as their livelihood, and enjoy the landscape of Huong River from Vong Canh Hill, one of the 18 beauty spots of Hue. After that, you visit An Hien Garden House, one of the typical ones in Hue where you can see a traditional Hue old styled house and an orchard offering fruits all year round. Leaving An Hien, you go and see Thien Mu, an ancient pagoda built under the Nguyen’s Lords (1601), a symbol of Hue Imperial City.

Noon: Leaving Thien Mu, you go down stream on a boat to Sinh junction where you disembark, pay a visit to Sinh Village which is well-known for paintings on rustic paper and have lunch at the house of the artisan Ky Huu Phuoc. Then, have a break and free to visit Lai An Village’s Temple.

Afternoon: tourists engage in all the process of printing and colouring paintings in a traditional way. This is also a souvenir gift from your excursion (tourists can buy paintings of artisans as a gift for your relatives and friends).

16:00 pm: Car takes tourists back to hotel and the tour ends here.
